Jade's favourite cat, Buffy, has just fallen sick, and she cannot figure out what the problem is. She has done her best to feed her cat nutritious food. Buffy's deteriorating health gets Jade so worried that she has to take her to a veterinary clinic. There, Jade gets to know the shocking cause of Buffy's illness, which neither Buffy, she, nor any other human is immune to if the present human lifestyle continues.

In this children's book, the authors, Erin Hill and Dr. Russ Hill, use a work of fiction to raise awareness about the worrisome effects of some dangerous human activities on nature and natural resources. This theme is developed through the events surrounding Jade and her cat, Buffy. I was greatly informed by the issues discussed in this story, and I appreciate this effort.

I liked the various points of awareness raised in this story. I believe those who are yet to take the issues of climate change and environmental degradation seriously will reconsider their stance after reading this book, especially once they realise that our health is tightly tied to that of our environment. I was entertained by the rhymes and rhythms in this story.

The discussion between Jade and the veterinary doctor is very informative, as it covers a lot of measures to protect our environment and natural resources, and I admire Jade's absolute conviction on this cause. Jade's genuine love for her cat is admirable, and this encourages a healthier attitude toward animals—something that will go a long way in stemming animal cruelty.

The illustrations done by Sky Kezmoh are great, and the beautiful paintings will very much appeal to the readers. This book was thoroughly edited, and I did not find any grammatical errors in it. I am glad to rate Why Did Buffy’s Fur Go Flat? : The Case of the Toxic Tuna five out of five stars because of the aforementioned praises for this book. I didn't find anything negative about this book. Hence, there is no reason to rate it lower.

This book is recommended for readers between five and eighteen years old. It is also appropriate for older readers because the issues raised in this book concern every human being.
