In a Dream by Ann Hoang is a beautiful story for young children or those young at heart. It is about dreaming of being in the ocean. She tells about the different animals in the water and what they are doing, such as seahorses dancing. It describes how one enters the water in dreamland and when one returns from dreamland. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, and a little dreamlike. I did not find any errors in the book, so it is exceptionally edited.

It helps a child to use their imagination. It has mainly easy words, with only one word that isn’t used on a routine basis, for children to ask about and learn new words. The book is short, as it could be a naptime or bedtime story for young children. The illustrations are colorful that attract children to them. And shows the animals playing and having a good time. In the beginning, there is a place for the child's name.

I found it hard to find something I didn't like about the book. The following are more observations or preferences than negative items. There is an illustration of a child floating in the water, presumably sleeping, but it could make someone a little older nervous that the child was drowning, though the child is smiling. Also, Ann Hoang wrote the book in all capital letters. On the page where the fish are going over the boat, it looks like the waves are knocking it over. This page is also the only one where the black lettering is on a dark background, which makes it harder to read.

I recommend this book for children two to five years old. Though, adults will also enjoy reading it to them. This age can pretend to be mermaids and mermen and recognize some of the words.

Because the story is well told, contains beautiful illustrations, is edited exceptionally, and has no negatives, I gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
