Donny and Marry Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a children's book about a boy with down syndrome. The author writes the book dedicating it to her brother, Donny, who was born with down syndrome, and even names the character with down syndrome after her brother. Donny liked to visit the zoo and watch penguins, where he tried walking like them. Mary Grace was Donny's sister, and one time when they were in the zoo, a child was reported to be missing. Donny was missing, and Mary Grace, with the other teenage boys' help, started looking for him. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were supposed to go on a mission in a small village in Kenya for two years which made Mary Grace angry since they were supposed to go live with their grandparents in California. They went to California and found their grandparents waiting for them at the airport. Their grandmother was supposed to show them the grandma gang responsible for catching thieves that robbed a store.

The author used literature to show the need to treat children with complications with the care they deserve. It was admirable how she used the book to show her feelings and stance on helping needy children. When Donny joined the school in California, some children looked him down, making Mary Grace angry since she cared for her brother very much. The author describes how children with complications should be treated like normal children. Just like Mary Grace cared for her brother with down syndrome, anyone can do so without discrimination. The author included comedy in her literary work to entertain children. Mary Grace wanted jeans with holes, which her mother didn't like but claims they are appropriate for church because they are "holey."

The book had no negative aspects. The language was simple enough for children since they are the author's target audience.

I rate Donny and Marry Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe five out of five stars. The book was exceptionally well-edited because I didn't find any errors. The author uses the book to teach children that they should treat each other well irrespective of their conditions, just like Mary Grace loved her brother Donny with down syndrome unconditionally. She shows an incident where Donny was discriminated against by fellow students just because he had down syndrome and was happy to be with them. The way the author used literature as a tool to educate others is worth a perfect rating.

I recommend this book to children aged between 5 to 15 years. Between that ages, children are discriminative, and this book would help them learn to treat others well, more so fellow children with complications.
