In a vast sea of stories for children, creating a story that stands out and has a unique plot but also fulfills its duty of teaching children new things, such as manners, or new words, is certainly difficult. However, I think that Unicorns Know Magic by Charles T. Adkins did its job perfectly. In the colorful and wonderfully illustrated novel, unicorns from outside this planet visit a young pair of siblings. The two parties become fast friends and go on adventures around the world that are sure to make a child’s eyes widen with wanderlust and wonder.

The illustrations in the book were simply adorable; they were bright, vivid, colorful, and not refined. You may be wondering why I consider the last thing I listed as a positive thing, but the truth is that the drawings had a childish element to them, and I feel that children might be able to connect to it even more, which might hold their attention even more. Along with the illustrations, I will definitely have to give an honorary mention to the rhymes themselves, they flowed smoothly, and I felt that they were accessible to children but also contained slightly new words that children could easily add to their vocabulary, thus providing an educational and learning factor.

There was nothing that I disliked about this book. If this novel is read to little kids by their parents as a bedtime story, I cannot even begin to imagine the wondrous dreams those kids would have. I think it is important to encourage children to fly high and have creative thoughts, and this book will definitely help them do just that. I found that the editing was very well done, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I obviously recommend this book to children and parents looking for a new bedtime story to read to them.
