Review of The Raindrop
[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Raindrop" by J.B. Auchter.]
A raindrop has a mission to accomplish, but it is light and has a small stature, which will pose a great hindrance to actualizing its mission. It also faces a lot of distractions along the way. These came from an airplane, bird, tree branch, boat, and wave. It must cling to some essential life values or kiss its mission goodbye.
The Raindrop is a children's narrative poem written by J.B. Auchter and illustrated by Ayan Mansoori. I liked this book's simple yet rhythmic lines, which is good for children given that they are always drawn to anything musical-like.
Even though this is a poem, the narration was simply crafted to ease children's understanding of the story, and this is commendable. The story is presented in couplets. I was entertained by the sweet rhymes.
There are a couple of figurative devices deployed to enrich the story. An example is the use of personification, as can be seen in "raindrop smiled on as it took this all in" (page 21). I enjoyed the author's writing style, and I look forward to reading his other publications: Evie the Eaglet Learns to Soar, Oliver the Oyster and the Pearl Gifts, and Oliver the Oyster and the Cheerless Clam.
The author also infused powerful themes in this story, and they are very essential to children's growth and development. The themes were developed through a raindrop. I admired its tenacity and clarity of purpose.
The wonderful illustrations done by Ayan Mansoori are another thing worth mentioning about this book. The paintings are very clear and beautiful, and I am sure children will enjoy watching them.
There was nothing to dislike in this book. It was thoroughly edited. I didn't find any grammatical errors in it. I am glad to award it five out of five stars based on the above positive points. There is no reason to rate it lower. I recommend this book to readers between three and nine years old.
