When she heard a lot of hammering and noise in Dr. Walter Bean's backyard, Nicole got curious. What was he building? Was it a swing? Or was it a castle? She wanted to know what it was. However, she was a shy girl and was too afraid to go over to Walt's. She tried to peek inside the compound from a tree, but it wasn't possible. She couldn't go higher up the tree to get a better view over the fence, and it remained impossible even with her dad's binoculars.

She decided to peek through the slats on the fence, but Oreo, Walt's dog, picked her out, making Walt see her. As it turned out, Walt was as fun to be with as could be. He invited her in and revealed that he was making beds to plant herbs and vegetables in his garden. That was the reason for all the noise. Just like that, Nicole was introduced to gardening.

Nicole's Micro-Garden by Judy Rienzi is an amazing children's book centered around gardening. Before Nicole met Mr. Bean (as she loved calling Dr. Walter Bean), she wasn't so much into gardening. However, she slowly grew to love it. It even became her new hobby. Walt taught her so much about growing and tending a garden. He introduced her to growing "microgreens." These are young plants that are harvested once their roots and true leaves form. I liked how gardening transformed Nicole's life.

I also liked the information in the book about gardening. I learned a lot about gardening, especially about growing microgreens. I was surprised that microgreens are easier to plant and look after — and that they have higher levels of nutrients as compared to mature plants. I'm definitely going to try growing them.

I liked everything about this book. There's no negative aspect I can think of, except for one minor error I noticed. Therefore, I'm awarding it 5 out of 5 stars. This book is good for adults and children alike who are passionate about gardening. I recommend you buy a copy for your child and general family reading.
