Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures, written by California A. Pepe is an exciting children's and grandparent's book describing the lives of two siblings, one born with Down syndrome. Mary Grace is the sister of Donny, who has Down syndrome. They have grown up and spent all their lives in Wichita, Kansas, with their parents. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, are assigned and sent on missionary work for the Episcopal Church in Africa, where they will spend two years. Mary Grace and Donny are forced to relocate to California to stay with their grandparents for two years while their parents are away on missionary work. Mary Grace loves and cares for her brother, Donny, but she is concerned about their lives without their parents for two years, especially for her Down syndrome brother. While in California, they are subjected to bullying at their new school. Will they cope with the new environment in their lives?

The pros I noted in the book are that I love the author's simple language, which she deployed in this book without the use of difficult terms or vocabulary, which made the story easily understandable by any reader, especially children and grandparents. My favourite part of this book is how Mary Grace deals with bullying and how parents and grandparents cooperate with teachers to devise the best punishment that is not harsh to children. The storyline flow was good, with fully developed characters. Catherine A. Pepe gave her characters good personalities. Mary Grace and Donny were my favourites in the book. They both liked to socialize with people. Mary Grace was loving, kind, and caring; she wanted the best for her brother. For instance, when they join North Elementary School, Mary Grace is more concerned about seeing that her brother will be in special classes as he needs extra help. Donny is just cheerful and optimistic. I admire their brotherhood. I liked how the author used this story, particularly Donny's, to show people with disabilities that they do not have to feel inferior and should enjoy every moment of their lives.

There was no con spotted or noted concerning the book. I finished reading the book without spotting any grammar, typographical, or punctuation errors. It is a wonderful, well-written, and exceptionally edited book.

I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The work Catherine A. Pepe did in this book with all the pros was amazing and deserved a full rating. This book teaches good virtues to children.

I recommend Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures to children aged four to seventeen and teachers and parents interested in learning the best way to discipline children. It also suits grandparents.
