Pooch in a Pound by Catherine A. Roser Rybak is a book about a dog experiencing a pound. Pooch is a Beaga Chow Lab Poo Terrier whose family took him to the pound, and this is a lovely book about him. He is an optimistic canine and is convinced that they will come back for him. This book describes his time in the pound, but don't worry! This isn't a sad tale.

Learn more about the pound and its function with this book. As an added bonus, the book also features a friendship between two dogs who met at the pound. It gives some background on why the dog might have been taken to the pound and how the dog might have interpreted that as his new temporary home. Additionally, this book can be used to teach kids that dogs do not have human-like thought processes.

One thing I didn't like was that it made me sad when the author made me realize that this is probably what a dog thinks when he's at the pound.

I liked the positive attitude of Pooch and Puppy Dog, as well as their close friendship, and how it contributed to my enjoyment of this book.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because I enjoy reading about dogs, and I found the author's description of how a dog might think fascinating. The ending was satisfying, and I appreciated the author's effort to bring attention to animals in need of homes who come from shelters. I enjoyed looking at the illustrations, and I think kids will too. I think the book has been professionally edited because I only found one error.

If you have a young child who is interested in animals, particularly dogs, or if you want to teach your child about the pound, I highly recommend this book.
