Review of Nana loves dress ups
You'd always have fond memories if you spent time with your grandma. Usually, it would be a game you played together. The narrator of this children's book shared fond memories of playing dress-ups with a woman she called Nana. This game was a sacred tradition she shared with Nana. When other family members joined the game, would she still have the same level of fun as she had with only Nana?
I have read and reviewed many children's books. However, Nana Loves Dress Ups by Vanessa Adelaide has a weirdness around it that I can't seem to figure out. First, the book is only three PDF pages. But the written content is divided into pages instead of chapters. For instance, instead of "Chapter 5," we have "Page 5." It looks like a draft the author wants to send to an editor to check before it is finally published.
Another weird thing about the book is that it doesn't have a layout or structure. As a children's book, I expect colorful designs and illustrations from the get-go. Unfortunately, there isn't a cover page or colorful interior to attract children to read this book. I can't recommend this book to any child in its current state.
One positive aspect of this book is the message of family and responsibility. It will be a good idea to teach children the role of family and the need to take responsibility. The earlier it is done, the greater the possibility of kids growing to become responsible members of society.
Another thing I liked about the book was the storyline. It brought back fond memories from when I was a kid. I loved playing with my grandma. Children who visit their grannies regularly will connect with the storyline.
The book's over-repetition of "dress up" gave me mixed feelings. On the one hand, I liked that it was repeated, as children would keep sight of the anchor phrase of the narrative. On the other hand, it was way too much. If the book were to be developed into twelve pages (as I would advise the author to do before its final publication), "dress up" would appear at least once on every page. That would be too repetitive.
Considering all of the aspects of this book (negative and positive), I'd rate it 2 out of 5 stars for now. I found two errors; however, the book seemed professionally edited. As I stated earlier, I would not recommend this book yet, as it didn't look ready for readers' consumption. Instead, the author should structure and design the book into a standard children's book.
