Review of Our Environment's Friends
Our environment's Friends by Phil Riggs is an educational book about the environment. Joel and his classmates couldn't wait to get started on their vacations for the summer. His teacher, Mrs. Stone, is trying to teach him and the other students in the class how to perform random acts of kindness in their day-to-day activities, such as assisting wildlife. During the course of his summer vacation, he did as much as he could to help the environment while simultaneously picking up valuable life skills.
The enjoyment of the book's content was enhanced by the presence of a number of appealing illustrations throughout the book. The illustrations also include pictures that show how the environment is filled with plastic and how the effects of this plastic can be seen on wildlife. The reader is provided with information regarding bees, including how and why they are important to the environment and other animals, and how whales and puffins are rescued. Even further, Joel is considering approaching their classroom teacher about starting a recycling program at their school. This book raises awareness about animals that are also going extinct as a result of all of the things we litter that are affecting their environment.
There was not a single aspect of the book that I found to be unfavorable, as I believe it to be an extremely informative resource that, with any luck, will instruct children not to litter and provide assistance to various forms of wildlife in our current day and age.
I like that this book explains to children why littering is a bad thing to do and all of the possible things that could happen if we don't stop littering. I thought it was really appealing that the author drew pictures to go along with each scenario so that the reader could see for themselves how damaging each one would be to the environment. I thought it was really clever how they taught the readers about the problems that come with littering by using a grandfather and his grandson as examples.
This book is deserving of a perfect score of 5 out of 5 stars because it provides children with a wealth of information regarding the natural world and the best practices for preserving it. This book provides a lot of examples of why littering is bad for the environment, and in my opinion, even adults can learn something from this book. In addition, this book is aimed at younger readers. I believe that a professional editor has gone over the book and that it will be straightforward and easy to understand for children.
If you are a parent or teacher who wants to teach children about the environment and how they can help preserve it, I highly recommend this book to you.
