Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures, which was authored by Catherine A. Pepe, describes how individuals with disabilities are stigmatized and occasionally excluded from society, including employment, culture, housing, and education. The book also seeks to educate the general population about the need to alter their mindset and be warmer and more inviting toward them. The book also inspires hope among disabled readers, encouraging them to believe that the world is not coming to an end and that, with enough work, they too can live regular lives and engage in activities like reading, writing, talking, walking, and playing musical instruments.
At his birth, physicians advised Donny's parents to place him in an institution or special home where he might spend the remainder of his life since he had Down syndrome. Donny is the book's main character. The decision was made by Donny's parents to keep him at home so they could raise him, educate him, and give him lots of attention. Donny's sister was ecstatic and vowed to help him in any way she could as a result. Donny had the good fortune to be born when medical research advanced and gave rise to amazing pharmaceuticals.
Justin had a miserable existence since his workaholic dad was the only person who could take care of him; he had previously lost his mother, and his grandmother had recently passed away. After hearing Justin's tale, they felt sorry for him and proposed a light penalty for him as well as the chance to take a karate class so he could focus his rage there. Later on, Donny and Justin grew close.
Reading the book was a lot of fun. Despite his condition and what life dealt him, Donny was always upbeat and joyful, which is why I appreciate his character.
Aspects of Donny's family's adoration, pampering, and real affection for him that I loved include his parents and sister. I like the author's writing style; it truly piqued my interest in reading the book and was engrossing since I was constantly curious about what would happen next as I turned each page.
There was nothing to dislike about the book, as it showed us how to be optimistic, kind, generous, and shun bullying.
I gave the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The book was just well-rounded, and I loved the author's effort. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I'd recommend the book to anyone who wants to read about friendship stories, experiences, and support for people with disabilities.
