Deborah Hale's Nikki's Rainbow is a children's book that teaches moral lessons about how every difficult situation has an optimistic side, even if it is not immediately apparent. The story is about a girl named Nikki who was subjected to domestic violence by her mother.

Nikki's home life was a mess after her father died in the war. Her mother has completely changed and is suffering from depression. Nikki has no one in whom she can confide. Elena and Maya, her friends, wanted to know what she was going through, but Nikki saw them as people who couldn't help in the situation. Miss Anna's teaching inspires her one day during Sunday school, and she opens up to her. Miss Anna provided her with the assistance she required by introducing her to Ms. Bennett, who transported her to Miss Sharon's home, where she will be cared for. Ms. Bennett introduced her to Miss Sharon, her counselor, who assists her in processing her emotional trauma. Nikki hadn't seen her mother in two months, but when Miss Sharon asked if she wanted to see her mother, she was terrified that she was still mad at her. Has Nikki's mother changed? Will Nikki and her mother reunite? To find out, get this exciting book.

This is a quick read that is both informative and thought-provoking. This book was illustrated by Sophia Wilder. The book is told from an enthralling point of view. I liked how the author used flashbacks to keep me interested in the current story. There are numerous moral lessons in this book that any reader who chooses to read it will learn. I liked how this book could be applied to real-life situations. It expresses family issues that young children face as they mature. I also liked how the author emphasizes that anyone, of any age, can deal with such a situation. The book includes the basic elements that any children's book should have, such as pictures of the characters and various setting elements. This exposes the reader to the character's personality and emotions. This book's title and illustrations are perfect and accurately depict the plot points.

This book had only a few flaws, in my opinion. The flashbacks were incomplete. I know it's a fast-paced novel, but I believe the author should have clarified Nikki's father's death and which war he died in. I believe the author should have included happier moments between Nikki and her father when he liked things they had in common. This will reveal whether Nikki's father was loved or if he truly loves them. There are numerous scenes that are incomplete. Two months have passed and she hasn't spoken to her mother; in my opinion, she was kidnapped. This work has been professionally edited. I discovered a few errors in it.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted a star because of the issues that bothered me while reading this book. The writing style of the author was flawless. The moral lessons in this book are sufficient for any child or reader to learn from. I recommend this book to parents and teachers, as well as readers who enjoy children's books.
