One of life's unavoidable occurrences is adventure. Although it may take many forms, Catherine A. Pepe's mystery novel Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures takes us on a journey and gives us a sense of the various ways that adventures could manifest in real life.

For Donny and Mary Grace, going to the zoo has become a fantasy, especially for Donny, who has down syndrome and prefers penguins above all other zoo animals and the penguin dance. They lived with their parents in Wichita, and everything was great until word spread that they were leaving for Africa to serve as missionaries. Mary Grace and Donny will leave for California to stay with Grandma Cathy and Papa Steve until their return. Smart Mary Grace is disappointed by the news, but Donny is thrilled to be traveling to California to meet Grandma's “gang” and his grandparents' dogs. Will Mary Grace come to terms with the idea of visiting California? And content for a while without their parents' presence? Read this interesting book to find out whether the adventure in California occurred, as well as the intriguing Grandma's “gang” narrative and their mystery.

This book's plot was epic and fascinating. Even though the book has 17 chapters, I found it to be brief but detailed. The Grandma “gang” story was my favorite part of this book. I had a great time imagining that part, and it was a lovely imagination: Elizabeth in her best karate position, ready to fight, and the prospect of discovering who the intruders were and whether their analyses and assumptions were correct. I was left in suspense and had to find out myself whether they met their prediction. Everything about this book appealed to me, and reading it was calming.

This book was wonderful in every way, and reading it was relaxing. The zoo trip in Wichita, the experiences in California, and the mystery involving Grandma's “gang” were all top-notch in this novel. This book receives a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because there is nothing to hate about it and because it was professionally well edited.

I suggest this book to everyone who enjoys reading books with a sense of adventure and who is interested in solving mysteries.

I enjoyed this book. I love the mystery aspect as well as the well-developed characters. Donny sounds so adorable because of his personality which is always happy. I'm glad Mary Grace, later on, enjoys California and solves the mystery of the bully letter which is from Justin. It was a harmonious read for me. Your review is great!

Donny's delightful persona, brimming with happiness, exudes an undeniable charm that renders him utterly adorable. It brings me great joy to know that Mary Grace eventually savors her time in California and successfully unravels the mystery surrounding the bullying letter, revealing its sender to be Justin.
