Puppy Looks for a Friend by Ashley R. Williams is a children's book that follows a puppy who, before starting to eat his favorite food, coco plums, wants to share his meal with his friends. However, the puppy realizes that there is no one with whom he can share his meal and goes searching for friends. The reader further learns which animals the puppy will meet in his search and if he will manage to make friends with anyone.

This charming short story sends a very important message to young readers. Differences are good; it is never good to discriminate against others based on their differences. Likewise, friendship is something special and priceless and should be valued. In addition, the story is written in simple language, which is ideal for young readers. I appreciate that the story's theme is presented from an animal perspective, given that most children love animals in books, especially when it comes to personification through various animals. In addition, fantastical elements appear in the story, such as a mermaid, which only adds to the uniqueness and magic of this story. Likewise, the book adequately depicts the course of the story with captivating and vivid illustrations.

There isn't much in the book that I didn't like. Each segment is well-developed and integrated into a whole that makes up this book. However, my slim complaint, which is only my subjective opinion and preference, is the lack of creativity in the organization and appearance of the text and the background in which it is written. I wish that segment was a bit more fun and engaging. For example, some illustrations could have been painted parallel to the text or subtly as a background to the given text.

Overall, I decided to give this book 4 out of 5 stars. The only reasons for a slightly lower rating are my already mentioned preferences from the previous paragraph. I miss that ingenuity and originality in the comprehensive organization of the book. On the other hand, I have to praise the excellent quality of the editing, considering that I did not encounter any errors.

I would recommend this book primarily to children in the first grades of elementary school. I believe this book does a good job of emphasizing certain values, such as respect and friendship, that should be taught to children from a young age. In addition, the book could also be an excellent choice as a bedtime story; due to its theme and illustrations, it would also be adequate for younger children.

What a nice message this book is all about. Exactly, it's okay to be different; the differences make us beautiful in our way. And true friendship can hardly be found, so to treasure it is good. Your review is wonderful, Ivana.
