Review of The bugligs
Darren Thompson's The Bugligs is an illustrated children's book. This story is about the buglig family. These creatures avoid ground crunchers, which are monsters that feed on bugligs, and eat them. After having an uneasy feeling one night, Daddy stumbled upon a ground cruncher outside of his home. Is there any hope for Daddy Buglig and his family to escape the ground cruncher? To learn more, pick up this book.
The exciting events in this book, such as when Daddy Buglig faces a ground cruncher, could teach a child how to react in dangerous situations, like when a stranger tries to grab your child. In addition, the author's vivid descriptions hold the reader's attention from the very first page. Moreover, I think this book can be used to teach kids to pay attention to their parents, especially when it comes to avoiding dangerous situations with strangers, and to flee from them like bugligs did when they encountered ground crunchers.
The book's descriptions were wonderful, and the pictures were as engaging to me as they would be to a young reader. The attention to detail of the bugligs homes and furnishings was also excellent to me. Caitlyn ended up being my favourite character as well.
When they were saying goodnight to their daughters the first night and then Daddy Buglig suddenly woke up, I would have appreciated a pause in the narrative between these two scenes.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much. It was different and exciting, so I never got bored. I also enjoyed the illustrations. I had to deduct a point because I counted more than ten mistakes and could tell it hadn't been professionally edited.
The book may only be 45 pages long, but there are a lot of words packed into those pages, so I suggest this book for kids aged 8 to 12. It's a great book that kids can read on their own or with their parents. This book contains a monster that could frighten young readers, so I wouldn't give it to them if they were prone to nightmares.
