Unicorns Know Magic by Charles Adkins tells the story of a young boy and his sister as they meet and grow to know their new neighbors. From their very first meeting, it is clear that there is something… odd… about the new neighbors, and not just because they hail from Mars! Instead, the children quickly find that Abby, Georgia, Bitsy, and Chase are extraordinary for a variety of reasons, but primarily because they are (flying) unicorns.

One of the greatest strengths of this book is that it tells a sweet story in a whimsical way. Watching the children go on adventures with their new unicorn friends (all of whom are upstanding citizens, by the way) is highly entertaining and engaging. It is precisely the type of book that I would love reading to my nieces and nephews, as well as to my son. I also appreciated that the book contains a variety of positive messages; specifically, throughout the text, the unicorns prove to be grateful for their friends and go out of their way to do everything they can to help those around them.

There was very little that I disliked about this book. Although I did find one misspelling, it did not detract from my reading in any way, nor did it impact my overall rating. Otherwise, I was unable to find anything that needs to be improved upon in future editions of this book.

I decided to rate Unicorns Know Magic by Charles Adkins 5 out of 5 stars. Although there was one minor error, it did not detract from my reading. As a result, I felt that this book was more than deserving of an “excellent” rating.

I would recommend this book to children with an interest in fantasy. I would not recommend this book to adults without children, since it is heavily geared toward children. However, the book may very well be liked by some adults. Further, although this book appears to be written primarily for younger readers, I believe that even older children would enjoy reading it.
