Pre-teens will enjoy reading One Little Christmas Tree, which was written by Russell Bittner. This is a story about pine trees having conversations using tree thoughts. You read about a big pine tree and a little pine tree, and you find out what happens to them, but you don't find out why it's happening to the little pine tree until the very end of the book. Find out what it is by picking up a copy now.

Since it is not a simple children's story, I can see why the book is recommended for ages 9 to 12. The book's beginning could be a little confusing, but the author does his best to introduce the reader to the different types of people who work with trees. This will aid the reader's comprehension of what might happen to trees after they are cut down. The reader can gain insight into pines and the Christmas tree-setting process at the Rockefeller Center in New York City.

The illustrations are great, and I especially enjoyed the snowy background with the green page borders. I appreciated how the author broke down the various professions associated with tree care. Though I had my doubts at first, the book's ending won me over.

I think it's important to go into this book with an open mind, especially since the author admits that some readers may wonder if it's meant for kids at all. I think kids might get bored because the author made the book go on for too long. The book's themes are best left to older readers, as suggested below.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because of the things I didn't like, but the story was entertaining, and the ending was surprising. The book appears to have been meticulously edited because I noticed no mistakes.

Pre-teens who enjoy books and don't mind a lot of detail would enjoy this book.
