Review of The Fantastical Adventures of a Little Green Elf
René Cournoyer's The Fantastical Adventures of a Little Green Elf is a book for kids. This is the first book in the series. Sticky and his friends loaded up the supplies for a trip to Philly. Sticky was a skinny little elf who spent most of his time sleeping. Dumbley was a stocky dwarf who loved to eat. Robyn, a very helpful elf, led the group to discover what had happened to Sticky's sister, Faylin.
The book was written with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) kids in mind. There is a bright illustration at the beginning of each chapter for the kids' enjoyment. I can see why the story is aimed at kids with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD) because of the way that it is written. I have no idea how children with autism might react to the book, so I can't comment on it. Many other valuable life lessons, such as generosity, sharing, forgiveness, and standing up to bullies, are displayed in the book.
Aside from the fictional elements, I enjoyed the author's use of real locations and the incorporation of historical details. I also appreciate how each book begins with a brief summary of events from the previous volume. I liked how the story kept my attention from the first page and how it developed.
The location of the map in the back of the book was disappointing, as I would have liked to have it at the front. I was disappointed with the way the book concluded. It seemed to just stop in the middle of nowhere.
This book has earned 4 out of 5 stars from me because it is captivating and has the potential to do the same for young readers. Sticky, with his unique ability, was another favourite character of mine. Because of where the author chose to end the book, I deducted a point. I think the book was professionally edited, though I did find a few mistakes in it.
I think this book would be great for pre-teens and teenagers who are interested in reading about creatures with unique abilities and exciting adventures.
