Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures, written by Catherine Anna Pepe, is a child's book that the author wrote based on her real brother, Donny, who had Down syndrome. In the story, the author names a character Donny, just like her brother. Donny liked to hang out in the Zoo, so his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, would take him and his sister Mary Grace, to the Zoo on holidays. Their parents had a one-year mission to Africa, so Donny and Mary Grace had to live with their grandparents in California. Donny was happy since he would see dogs, but Mary Grace was sad and cursed the church for sending their parents away for one year. Their grandmother wanted to tell them the grandma gang mystery. Read this book and find out about the mystery.
The book is children's, and the author maintained a good sense of humor. Mary Grace wore jeans with holes and cracked a joke saying the jeans were appropriate for the church since it was "holey" when her mother tried getting her clothes to wear when going to church. I liked that the author wrote the book with a character with special needs. Donny had Down syndrome, and his sister loved him unconditionally. It teaches children to relate well with others. Donny was bullied in school, and Mary Grace was protective of him, showing children they should have the courage to stand against those who mistreat others.
I have nothing to criticize in this book. It is a good children's book with important teachings that helps children to learn more about human relations and live with other children with disabilities.
I rate Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures, written by Catherine Anna Pepe, five out of five stars. The book was exceptionally edited because it had no traceable errors. It contains teachings to help children better relate with others, even those with disabilities. The sense of humor was perfect, making children enjoy the book. With all these and the book being without errors, I give it a perfect rating.
I recommend this book to children between five to thirteen years. It fits them because they are old enough to realize the pain people feel when they are bullied. It teaches them better human relations to help them mingle better with others.
