Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a pleasant children's book written by Catherine A. Pepe. The story follows two siblings, Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller, as they are forced to relocate to California to live with their grandmother after their parents are temporarily assigned to Kenya. Mary Grace doesn't like the idea, while Donny, being an optimist, welcomes it. However, Mary Grace, just like almost every kid in a new school, begins to get bullied. She tries to fight back with the help of her grandma and the Grandma Gang, but only ends up stepping on more toes.

The book is beautifully illustrated, which helps to bring the story to life and capture the imagination of young readers. The illustrations are colorful, vibrant, and full of detail, making it easy for children to imagine themselves on the adventure and experience with Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller. I admire the author's inclusion of children's jokes that require a sense of humor to understand. I must commend Catherine's inclusion of a fictional character born with special needs yet living his best life.

There is nothing I dislike about this book; I think it is a perfect children's book. I consider the author's inclusion of a disabled character a brilliant idea and a good source of motivation for other children who also suffer from Down syndrome. The fact that the portrayal of Donny as a disabled child was inspired by the author's brother, who suffered from Down syndrome as a child, remains mind-blowing. Throughout the book, Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller, along with their granny and the Grandma Gang, engage in many exploits that are both educational and entertaining.

One thing I find fascinating about this book is that it is written in a way that is easy for children to understand yet still engaging for adults to read. The story is well-paced, with plenty of action and adventure, and the main characters, Donny and Mary Grace, are lovable and relatable. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because I'm certain it doesn't deserve less. The book doesn't contain any spelling errors and was edited perfectly.

Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a wonderful book that is sure to capture the hearts of young readers. It's a perfect read for children planning a vacation trip to California. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great children's story, and especially to children who have been bullied in the past, as I think they would find motivation from the way Mary Grace handled her situation.

I love how both children and adults can learn from this novel. It’s entertaining to both. Mary Grace is an exceptional elder sister. I like her group with those grandmas. They were so amusing.

The author's inclusion of down syndrome is an excellent approach and this will help children know more about the condition and be kind to those that have it.
Thanks for your take on this.

What a brilliant idea by the author to include a child with special needs in the book. To even think that it was inspired by the author's brother who suffered from down syndrome? Simply spells brilliance!

I have not yet read this book but I have seen positive reviews about it. I hope to read it soon. Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures appeal to me because of the character that has disability.

I've never thought of reading children, I think it because I feel like it's a waste of time to read children's books. Nevertheless, your review is making me have a rethink, kudos!
