Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a children's book about two siblings' adventures in California and a grandma gang mystery. Mr. and Mrs. Miller had just taken their two children: Donny and Mary Grace, to Sedgwick County Zoo since Donny liked watching penguins and imitating them. Mary Grace was leaving the penguin exhibit when she heard the announcement that Donny was lost. Donny had Down syndrome, so she became worried and started looking for him. Mary Grace and Donny left for California after their parents went to Africa. Donny was happy since he would meet their dogs. Mary Grace wanted to ask her grandmother about the grandma gang mystery.

I liked the comedy in the novel; for instance, Mary Grace claimed her jeans with holes are good for the church since they are "holey." It raises the readers' mood as they read the book since they can find something to laugh at. The story educates children and other people with disabled loved ones or friends. Donny had Down syndrome, and Mary Grace loved him. They went to a school in California, and some children made fun of him, making Mary Grace angry. It teaches people to treat people with disabilities with love and respect. Children will learn to love disabled children and not to make fun of them. I loved the grandma mystery. The author describes how they solved the robbery, encouraging people to be creative.

I have nothing to criticize in this book. The flow of the story was good. The language was simple, favoring children since they were the target audience.

I rate Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe five out of five stars. The book was exceptionally well-edited because it lacked mistakes of any kind. The author includes comedy in the novel to make children laugh and find the book enjoyable. It is also educative on discipline matters for children when close to disabled people. It helps shape their morals. The mystery in the novel was great. The grandmas used interesting techniques to solve the mystery.

I recommend this book to children between seven to thirteen years. It suits them because it is at that age children develop bad morals. Using the book, they can shape their morals since they can understand it.
