Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is a children’s book by R.F. Kristi. The book narrates the story of a Siberian cat known as Inca who heads a team of other cats to help solve crime and mysteries. The plot began when Inca’s human mother, Missy, was invited as a judge in a competition organized by Le Cordon Bleu on the border between South Korea and North Korea. Going on this trip presented Missy with an opportunity to present her newly formulated cheese. She took Inca and her team (comprising of Fromaye, Car, and Monk) on this trip. However, confusion set in when some samples of the cheese got missing. To stop Missy’s effort and hard work from going down the drain, the detective team led by Inca was poised to find the missing cheese. Will they find the missing cheese? Who stole the missing cheese? How effective will Inca and her team be in resolving this mystery? The answers to these questions can be found within the 120 pages of this book.

The was worth the time I used in reading it. It has so many positives that I have to comment on. I love the author’s writing style. The descriptiveness that accompanied the writing made it possible to comprehend. This attribute makes it a perfect read for children. I was also intrigued by the character development. As the story followed a timeline, one could see how most characters in the book morphed and developed. Segmenting the story into a timeline with dates added context to the plot because it helped one to follow the story sequentially. The colorful illustrations made the book an easy read. Children can easily relate to the illustrations.

Aside from entertaining me, the book enlightened me with more facts and information about the culture of the Korean people. After reading this book, children will learn the dynamics of the relationship between South and North Korea in the simplest of terms. Children will also learn the virtues of friendship, teamwork, and love from the pages of this book. There is a lot for kids to learn from the way Inca and her team worked harmoniously.

There is nothing about the book that I disliked. The excellent editing of the book made it impossible to spot any errors. Thus, it would be unjust if I don’t give this book a 5 out of 5 stars rating.

I recommend this book to young readers who want to learn new things. Adults can also read this book to narrate the story to their kids and younger ones.
