Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
People with disabilities need every support they can get in today's society. I recently worked in a hospital where sick people were taken care of. I felt for them and wished they would get better.
Catherine A. Pepe wrote this charming children's book, Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures. When their parents are temporarily deployed to Kenya, two siblings named Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller are compelled to go to California to live with their grandmother. Donny, an optimist, likes the concept, whereas Mary Grace doesn't. However, Mary Grace starts to experience bullying, like practically every child in a new school. With the assistance of her grandmother and the Grandma Gang, she tries to fight back but only manages to step on more toes.
Beautiful pictures were in the book to aid in bringing the narrative to life and capture young readers' imaginations. Children will find it easy to picture themselves joining Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller on their voyage because of the pictures in the book. I applaud the author for including kid-friendly jokes that call for comedy to be understood. I have to applaud Catherine for including a fictitious character who was born with disabilities but is still living his best life.
Nothing in this book bothered me; I believed it to be the ideal children's book. It was an excellent idea for the author to include a disadvantaged character because it would inspire other kids with Down syndrome. The idea that the portrayal of Donny as a disabled youngster was inspired by the author's brother, who had Down syndrome as a toddler, remains mind-blowing. I felt pity for the author when I learned about his brother's condition. It showed that this book was genuinely written from the author's emotions. From reading this book, I got to know a lot about people with Down syndrome. I learned how to treat and support them in every way possible. Throughout the book, Donny Miller and Mary Grace Miller, their grandma, participated in various educational and fun antics.
It's fantastic that this book was written for kids to grasp yet is enjoyable for adults to read. The primary characters in the book were endearing and realistic. Also, the plot moved along at a good clip with lots of action and adventure. I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because the plot was amazing. The book was flawlessly edited and had no typographical problems.
Young readers will adore reading this lovely novel. Children planning a trip to California for vacation will like reading it. I heartily suggest this book to anybody searching for a wonderful children's narrative, especially to kids who have previously been bullied; they would find inspiration from reading this book.
