Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
The book description of Donny and Marry Grace’s California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe says that the book is a mystery story for children and grandparents. I respectfully disagree. Because this book projects a deeper essence than that, it felt more real than just fiction to me, and I found it very easy to connect with every character in the book, including the seemingly negative ones. This book is based on how certain events that we do not prepare for in life can have a great effect on the trajectory of our lives. Duty and purpose can sometimes bring with them harsh realities, hard-to-make choices, and very unfriendly decisions whose aftermath might have negative effects on our loved ones, which most of the time will require an equivalent level of understanding of a man’s purpose for them to be able to make peace with them. Following a path of purpose and striving to make an impact often brings with it hard prices to pay, the need for self-denial, and the ability to make peace with the decisions that have a direct impact on everyone in our lives. It is at these critical junctions of life that our own meaning and essence are defined. Find out the fate of John and Jen Miller’s family when duty calls in this amazing book.
There is so much joy, peace, optimism, hope, love, positive energy, and emotion in this book. The seemingly unfair choices life compels us to make can be the biggest and most positive thing that ever happened to us. How certain events happen to us might not be our choice, but the impact and effect we allow them to have on us is solely a derivative of what or how we choose to relate to them. Bad situations and circumstances sometimes open us up to change, which ultimately increases our capacity to forgive and love each other deeply. We have the obsolete power to allow them to reveal how humane and forgiving we can be and bring out the love hidden deep in our hearts. The seemingly wrong things that people do to each other, if handled with discretion and wisdom, can be the very bond that connects us stronger and deeper.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book; the story portrays a deep understanding of human behavior and why people act and react the way they do. There is room for flexibility in punishment; don’t completely sell someone out to the consequences of their mistakes all in the name of correcting them. I am not saying wrong actions should not be punished, but there should be room for flexibility and wisdom to punish them in love. Bad behavior in kids sometimes stems from an unfortunate event that happened to them. Most of the people who engage in violence can be traced to their childhood experiences; they are people who have probably never been truly loved or cared for; their hearts don’t know how to love but only violence. I love the way the story uses love to conquer hatred, as in the case of Mary Grace, Donny, and Justin in the book. The turnout of events between the characters mentioned above almost made me shed tears. Truly, love is powerful and can conquer anything.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I love the author’s consistency throughout the book; every character and scene in this book delivers a very positive message to the reader. The book is exceptionally edited with minimal errors, not enough for me to remove one star. She avoids lengthy and unnecessary descriptions of events or characters that are time-wasting and of no essence. There is no portion of this book at all that doesn’t have a very deep message hidden within it.
I recommend this book not only to kids but also to parents who want to know the technicalities of raising kids with a healthy heart, school leaders, political leaders, teachers, and everyone who wants to feel love in its purest and simplest form. Sometimes our hearts harden as a result of how mean our world can be, and our hearts sometimes unconsciously trip into insensitivity, both in emotions and care. We need books like this to soften our hearts, increase our optimism, and resuscitate our hearts' sensitivity as humans.
