I totally agree on the Chronicles of Narnia. It takes a while to read them all, but well worth it! And reading them in order helps too.

I really loved the Secret Garden and look forward to sharing it with my granddaughter when she is old enough.TMR-Virtual Oracle wrote: ↑24 Nov 2016, 12:50 I agree with the comment about The Little House on the Prairie series, but I must also include Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White or The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett and Phyllis Bixler for someone looking for a single read. As for another series, I would include The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, which is a total of 23 books I believe. Magical.

Of course, Calvin and Hobbes should be everyone's favorite. I mean Calvin is the dream revolutionary mind of every kid. I still wish I had a brain like him. But I can still settle for sitting all day, reading the bizarre things he says. Also there's Remembering Farley. That is also probably the highlight of my elementary school years. Nancy Drew brought out the detective in me that goes on to snoop in my mom's bag. I also wished I was one of Nancy Drew's friend because they had much more fun and adventure than I did sitting in my school library, trying to zone out of the brutal reality that I have to deal with math, which is next period.PacerMac88 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2016, 21:05 Winnie the Pooh and Calvin and Hobbes were definitely favourites.

Another classic book I have extremely fond memories of is Little Old Mrs Pepperpot by Alf Proysen. When I was very young, and my parents were still reading me short bedtime stories, this collection of stories was my favourite. I always wanted to eat a big, tall pile of pancakes just like Mr Pepperpot gets to eat at the end of the first short story. I kept a copy of this book and shared it with my son when he was young. It was a firm favourite of his too.
