Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Inca, Cara, Fromage, Charlotte, and Terrance accompanied Missy to South Korea for a cooking competition hosted by Le Cordon Bleu, one of the world's top culinary schools. The competition aimed to foster peace and unity between North and South Korea. Missy, chosen as one of the four international judges, would have the opportunity to showcase her exceptional cheese, Le Créme de la Créme, touted as the best in the world. Additionally, they would all embark on a tour in Korea, exploring new places. How did their journey unfold? To find out, dive into the captivating pages of R.F. Kristi's Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula.
What I found most appealing about this children's book was its engaging narrative. It was truly delightful to read about the team's adventures in Korea. They visited a range of exotic locales, including the Dora Observatory, the infiltration tunnel in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), and the Freedom Bridge. Moreover, they were enchanted by the breathtaking cherry blossoms at Ye-Jun's place. The book also touched upon the team's efforts to assist Baram, Ye-Jun's dog, in crossing over to the North to retrieve Bo-Ming, thereby preventing Solo and Ye-Jun from breaking the law by sneaking across themselves.
The characters in the story were also exceptionally developed, each with their unique traits. Allow me to provide a brief overview of some of the key characters. Inca, Cara, Fromage, Charlotte, and Terrance were the members of the "Inca & Co Detective Agency," an animal detective agency. Although Polo and Monk didn't join them on the journey to Korea, they were also integral members of the team. Terrance stood out as the only dog, while the others were cats. Missy served as their loving human mother, and the detective Solo was her companion. Enzo played the role of an antagonist, an evil chef, and Missy's primary rival. In South Korea, Ye-Jun was their tour guide and translator. Ye-Jun and his loyal dog, Baram, together with his sister, Ji, and her cat, Bo-Ming, also played important roles. Of course, there are more intriguing characters waiting to be discovered within the pages of this book.
To be honest, I couldn't find any negative aspects to critique. Therefore, I see no reason to deduct any stars from my rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Furthermore, the book offered an engaging story with well-rounded characters, and it was written in a simple and accessible manner. These positive attributes also make it deserving of a flawless rating. Additionally, the book was perfectly edited, and I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy children's animal detective tales.
