Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
Just like the name suggests, Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a book about the adventures two siblings named Mary Grace and Donny had. They had just come to California. While Donny felt right at home, Mary Grace struggled with settling in. She had to leave her old school and friends in Kansas. Adjusting to a new environment was not easy, but things started changing when Penelope came into her life. They became fast friends, and Mary Grace felt more comfortable. Mary Grace got the shock of her life when she found a note that told her she and her brother did not belong at the new school. The mystery of who was behind that lingered in the air. Mary Grace had to recruit some older people to help her fish out the person behind the cruel note. That was how her adventure in California began. How would it end?
I disliked nothing in Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures. I felt the need to say this first because I wanted to get that out of the way first. I will now tell you what I think of this book.
The story in this book touched me and made me realize so many things. The first thing is that parents heavily influence their children. One of the kids in the story picked up the bad habit of calling people names and threatening them from their parents. To the adult in question, they could not understand why their kid acted that way, but they failed to hold a mirror up to their face. That is one big lesson I learned from this book.
Catherine A. Pepe taught many other lessons in the book. These lessons are my favorite thing in the book. My biggest one is that children's innocence is the most precious thing. In the story, someone hurts one of the characters greatly. Did they let that force them to hold a lifelong grudge? No, it did not. We can learn from the innocence and good heart of children.
The adventure Mary Grace had kept me in suspense for a while. I did not expect a book like Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures to hold me in such suspense. At that point, I knew I would read the story until the end without skipping a bit. I loved this book greatly. Catherine A. Pepe really did not give me a reason to dislike anything about it. She did not let me see anything I would call negative. That includes its editing. There was no typographical error, and you can say she edited it flawlessly. The reasons above are why I now rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I highly recommend Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe to young readers from seven to twelve who want a cool mystery book to read. They will have a great time figuring out who sent the note.
