Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids
Emma, an eight-year-old girl, wakes up one morning with exciting news to tell her parents. While sleeping, she was visited by two angels who take her and her younger sister on a visit to Heaven. This will not be an exception; she will have similar dreams on different nights. After each time, Emma shares her dreams with her parents and her sister, explaining what she has seen and how she felt about it. Each experience ends with her parents relating the dreams to some elements from the Bible.
Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids by Jemima and Arvind Paul is a short story for children which summarises and simplifies the work Snatched Up to Heaven, from the same authors. On this occasion, the authors adapt their book including numerous pictures and using a more friendly language than in their version for adults.
I think this book is overall very well prepared to be a nice experience as a shared reading for parents who want to educate their kids in Christianism and their children. I enjoyed the style of the pictures and their appearance; I think they work very well in their intention to engage the younger ones in the process. In addition, the chapters are short, only a few pages in each one. The length of the chapters facilitates that the book can be used as a bedtime story.
I only found one aspect I disliked about this title. At the very end, the authors dedicate one page to send a message to the parents. Although the content is in line with the rest of the book, with information about God and Heaven and recommendations to fathers and mothers about their children’s education, I found it disruptive and a bit patronising.
The editorial work was exceptional, and I didn’t find any errors or typos. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Although I seriously considered reducing one star because of the already mentioned section for parents, I think this book doesn’t have any objective reason not to have a perfect rating, and it gives a generally pleasant experience to the reader.
This book is thought for kids; however, I would recommend parents read it with them. I think this book can create many questions in young readers, and having someone to chat with could be helpful for them. This book focuses on some of the main topics of Christianism, and parents who don’t wish to educate their children on that faith may prefer to avoid it.
