Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is a book that revolves around the lives of the Miller family. There are two children in the family: the inquisitive Mary Grace and the ever-delightful Donny. He was born with down's syndrome. Yet, Donny is much more than the name of a diagnosis on a chart. His happy family accept him unconditionally for who he is. However, as the parents embark on a journey to Africa, the kids are made to move to California to live with their grandparents. Despite initial discontentment, Mary Grace finds fun in the adventures that follow up later. How did Donny feel about it? Does he start liking the Californian lifestyle? Do they fit in? Read the book to know more!

This was a heartwarming read! I thoroughly enjoyed the book especially because it deals with important issues such as bullying, impact of unexpected lifestyle changes and the importance of family support. The adorable little illustrations at the end of certain chapters, Mrs Miller being a sensitive parent and the author's sense of humor are some of the best things about the book! The children reading this book will enjoy the penguin dance steps! Despite being an adult-reader, this book has taught me valuable lessons. I loved the parent-child dynamics in the Miller family.

This book was amazing, it almost felt like a movie come to life. It was simple to read, primarily making it easy for children, while also passing across important messages. It skillfully delves into the themes of love, thrilling adventures, family-bonds and rising above health limitations, making it a meaningful read!

It was hard to find anything negative about the book. It is impressively well-edited and error-free, as well.

On a scale of 1–5, I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
This book is for children, teachers, parents and just any other person looking for a warm family-centred, joyful yet enlightening read. This book has several lessons across significant spheres of life.
It will be a refreshing read!
