Review of Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures
Catherine Anna Pepe wrote the book Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures. Although it's a fictional book, the inspiration to write it came from the writer's memory of Donald Woodward Burcham, her younger brother, who, while alive, lived with Down syndrome. She, therefore, decided to write this fictional story using major characters such as Donny, Mary Grace Miller, and Donny and Mary's parents. When Donny was brought into this world by his mother, everyone in his family was elated that a new child had joined the family. Along the way, Donny was diagnosed with Down syndrome. It was a difficult pill for them to swallow, even though Donny had been exhibiting weird symptoms before the actual discovery that he had Down syndrome. They just knew that taking care of Donny very well would make him live a more satisfying life, and they did just that. The story continues as Donny's parents have an urgent need to travel to Kenya for a voluntary outreach. Mary and Donny had to live with their grandparents in another location. Will their parents absence affect them? Read this book to know.
Thanks to drug producers for manufacturing drugs suitable for the health of people living with Down syndrome. These drugs make them strong healthwise, fit to mingle with normal humans, and also make them last longer on earth. Donny was given some powerful drugs that kept him alive for fifty-three years. Not only did his family give him the necessary medical treatment, but they also took him to a good school where he learned how to mingle with other children. This removed every form of timidity from him. Donny was also made to experience fun in different ways. Considering that there were some specific animals that he loved, his parents made sure that he visited the zoo to see those animals. He also played with his sister on several occasions. Interestingly, Donny learned how to walk, read, swim, and talk from his parents, and this was amazing to know.
I was fascinated with how Mary and her parents rejoiced when Donny was found after he went missing in the zoo. All of them went to the zoo to have fun, and all of a sudden, Donny was nowhere to be found. They became more bothered when they couldn't find him among any group of people in the zoo. Where do you think they found Donny? Get a copy of this book to find out.
My rating of this book is five out of five stars. It was exceptionally edited because the content was free from errors. I will confidently say that I disliked nothing about it. It was also educational, engaging, and suspenseful.
I recommend it to readers of educational fictional stories, teachers teaching in special needs schools, parents, children, and lovers of children's books, considering that the rich content of this book will appeal to them more.
