Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe revolves around a lovely family, the Millers. Mary Grace and her younger brother Donny, who was born with Down syndrome, are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, and they had to stay with their grandparents in California.

Mr. Miller is a priest, and his wife is a civil engineer. The lovely family enjoyed themselves in Wichita, Kansas, and they love visiting the Sedgwick County Zoo. The couple was asked to travel to Africa to render services for the church, St. James Episcopal Church, so they had to keep their children, Mary Grace and Donny, with their grandparents in California for a period of two years. They felt uncomfortable with this, but later on they had to accept it, and surprisingly, they enjoyed their stay in California without their parents. There are many positive aspects to this book. It’s a short children's book, so I found it easy to read in a couple of hours. The author's writing style is really exceptional, and the storyline of the book was great. The author's creative abilities are reflected in the plot and character development of the book. I loved the children's relationship with their grandparents. The book's cover is attractive, and I believe it would capture a lot of attention. The suspense in the book also brought different emotions, as I was eager to find out how things would turn out in the zoo.

There was nothing I didn’t like about the book. I learned some lessons from the book that I believe would be helpful to children. There were instances of bullying and intent to instigate violence, which were condemned in the book. This would teach children that this is evidence of bad character and they should avoid such acts.

I’m rating this book five out of five stars because I really enjoyed reading it and there was nothing I disliked about it. There were no errors in the book because it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend the book to children, and it would also be suitable for those who love reading children's books because it would be an amazing experience for them.
