Catherine Anna Pepe's Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a children's mystery novel. Donny and Mary Grace, two young siblings, come to California to live with their grandparents while their parents are abroad on a mission trip. The siblings are looking forward to the journey, but they are also concerned about leaving their friends and home behind. Mary Grace is Donny's protective elder sister, and he has Down syndrome. When Donny and Mary Grace arrive in California, they meet their grandparents, a kind and caring couple. Donny and Mary Grace integrate quickly into their new lives in California. They make new friends, go on adventures, and even solve a bullying mystery. They do, however, experience some difficulties, such as bullying and prejudice.

California's setting is well-described and intriguing. The novel does a fantastic job of depicting the difficulties of relocating and adjusting to a new life. The plot is action-packed and mysterious. The characters are well-developed and relatable. Donny and Mary Grace are both intriguing characters that are easy to root for. Mary Grace is a strong and independent young woman adjusting to her new life in California. Donny is a sweet and compassionate Down Syndrome youngster who is only trying to fit in. The author does an excellent job of depicting both characters' struggles and successes. There are many beautiful moments in the novel, such as when Mary Grace and Donny bond over their love of penguins or when they assist in solving a mystery. The narrative is particularly encouraging because it demonstrates how two brothers can overcome obstacles and develop together. The grandparents' relationship with their grandchildren is endearing.

I have no negative aspects of this book. This book gets 5 out of 5 stars from me since it teaches readers about a range of themes, including Down Syndrome, bullying, and restorative justice. The author does an excellent job of incorporating these educational elements into the story in an engaging and informative manner. Donny's impairment is handled sensitively and respectfully in the book. The book also delves into the topic of bullying and how to overcome it.

This book contained no grammatical errors. It was flawlessly edited. This book is recommended to people who want to read a lovely novel about family and friendship. People who enjoy children's literature and mystery novels should read this book.
