Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventures by Catherine Anna Pepe is a children’s book. Just like the title of this book, Donny and Mary Grace have an adventure in California, where they live with their grandparents for two years. Donny and Mary Grace are siblings who initially stayed in Wichita with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. Donny is the younger sibling of Mary Grace. Their parents are Christians who go to Africa as missionaries. Mary Grace is not thrilled by the decision made by her parents since she has to go to California and live with her grandparents. The decision by the parents leads to the California adventures that Donny and Mary Grace face while they stay with their grandparents and the bullying they face in their new school. However, Mary Grace provides a solution to this challenge facing them due to how she reasons and solves this bullying as a mystery.

I enjoyed the character portrayed by Donny in this book. He is a jovial and charming boy. I loved reading his conversations, as he is humorous in a sarcastic manner and is loved by everyone he interacts with, including Justin. I also love how Mary Grace handled the situation she was in while at her new school. She is a smart and considerate girl. As a Kenyan Citizen, I am proud that it is mentioned in the book as the place where the parents went as missionaries.

The book began at a slow pace, but I have nothing to dislike regarding this book as it has been exceptionally well edited since I found no single error when reading.

I rate this book five out of five stars. I find no reason to deduct any stars since the book has a fantastic flow from start to finish with well-written characters.

This book is an excellent recommendation for children as they grow, as it provides a guide on how they should relate to and treat each other. It is also an excellent recommendation to teachers on ways they can handle cases of bullying that arise in schools.
