Have you heard about special children with special needs? Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures (A Grandma Gang Mystery) by Catherine Anna Pepe will tell you about a special boy called Donny. The book also revealed personas like Mary Grace, Penelope, Mrs. Knight, Ed, Grandma Cathy, etc. Donny is special because he has Down syndrome but is optimistic about life. Every day he wakes, he stretches and expects a great day.

One day, their parents were instructed by the Priest of St. James Episcopal Church to go on a missionary journey in Africa for two years. The trip was so important that there had to send Donny and Mary Grace to live with their grandma. They even had to change their school, and Mary Grace was not pleased because she wanted to be with her friends. A bully was interested in Mary Grace and her brother at their new school. Mary eventually made new friends and even joined the Grandma Gang. Her mom advised Mary only to ask the Grandma Gang about their grandchildren if she was willing to spend hours looking at all the pictures of them. Read the book to learn more!

The book is great for kids learning how to read because of the simple words used by the author. The 'Donny' figure is crafted in honor of the author's brother, who had Down syndrome, and his personality is cheerful and exciting. I like the vivid use of imagery in this book. The Grandma Gang love solving mysteries; they once assisted the police in solving a mystery at the 7-Eleven store near a ranch. You can imagine grandmas solving crimes; it's an exciting imagination.

I did not dislike anything in the book. The book is a very well-structured and exceptionally edited children's novel. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars due to my likes and the positive aspects I rightly discussed above. I also like the book's cover; I can see Donny with a polo that reads I love California. Oh, what a cheerful boy!

I recommend the book to guardians, children, and teachers, especially those attending to children with Down syndrome, to help optimize their morale. The book attempts to encourage those with Down syndrome to enjoy every day of their lives, like Donny. And also to those attending to special children to assist them in having a great day every day.
