Donny and Mary Grace’s California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe Mary Grace and Donny both lived in Wichita, Kansas, with their lovely parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. They always had a wonderful time together, like going to the Zoo. Donny likes playing with penguins. Their parents soon received a message from the bishop to go on missionary work in Kenya with the St. James Episcopal Church. Mary Grace and Donny would have to travel to California to stay with their grandparents for two years. Will they enjoy their stay there? Read on and enjoy the story.

I really enjoyed the book. More interesting was how Mr. and Mrs. Miller treated their son, Donny, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Despite his health challenges, he was still loved and cherished by everyone. The friendship between Penelope Li and Mary is what I admire most. Though at first Mary Grace felt insecure, she finally yielded to the friendship. I like that this book talks about the effects of bullying on a child and how to handle it.

I don’t have anything I dislike about the book because it was properly paced from the beginning to the end. The characters were developed properly. I also found many life lessons that need to be inculcated in our children. The author, Catherine A. Pepe, made her audience understand that despite one’s disability, dreams can still be actualized.

This book really caught my attention because it emphasized family values and the strong bond between each member of the family. The book is exceptionally well edited, and I found no grammatical errors in the book. I, therefore, rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to children experiencing bullying of any kind. Teachers can also find this book appealing for teaching children.

I enjoyed reading this book. I also loved how Mrs Miller treated both Donny and grace equally, despite Donny’s disability. It shows the kind of love parents have for their kids.

This book is such an inspiring read for children. I like how the children defended themselves ad how their parents trained them.
