Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures is a children's book authored by Catherine Anna Pepe. This book is about a family of four who lived in Wichita. The narrative opens at a zoo when Donny Miller, the last member of the family, is missing. Donny Miller was five years old, and he had Down syndrome. His sister, Mary Grace Miller, who was ten years old, later figured out his location in the course of the search.

The main focus of the story becomes unraveled when Mr. and Mrs. Miller, the parents of the two children, announce to them that they have an assignment from the bishop to stay in Kenya, Africa, for two years, while the children have to move to California and stay with their grandparents. Mary Grace was sad about the whole idea, while Donny didn't find it a bad idea because she believed it would also be fun in California.

I like many things about this book. My best character in the narrative is Donny Miller. Despite having Down syndrome, he is always very optimistic. I also appreciate the author's creativity in bringing relatable roles to the two siblings. This made the storyline very interesting. The author's choice of words was perfect to portray the themes embedded in the storyline. I also appreciate the author's writing style employed in this informative artwork. This story teaches that each and every one of us has our own differences. Despite the fact that some people have congenital abnormalities and some don't, everyone has a very bright side, and we must learn from that.

I don't dislike anything about this book. It's work well done. I also didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows it was exceptionally well-edited.

For the reasons I mentioned above, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to every growing child, especially those trying to adapt to a new environment. I also recommend this book to teachers in schools because it contains lessons on how teachers should deal with new students.
