Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is an amazing and emotional story that follows the lives of the siblings. Donny was born with Down syndrome, but he was a very curious and intelligent boy. He aims to live each day like his last and loves all the people around him. Mary becomes unhappy and angry that her parents are leaving for two years to Africa and goes to stay with her grandparents in California along with Donny.

Mary Grace, being the protective sister to Donny, worries about him getting along with other kids at their new school. Soon after arriving at school, Mary Grace is bullied by an unknown, and her grandmother, along with friends, helps her solve this. Who is Mary Grace bullied by? Will Donny get hurt? Read this book to find out more about how Mary Grace aims to protect her loved ones at all costs.

I absolutely loved reading this book. Firstly, I loved that this book was inspired by true-life events. This book is fiction, but the author did have a brother who had Down syndrome in real life. Knowing this makes a reader continue to be engrossed and curious to find out more. Secondly, I loved most scenes, including scenes like how Donny and Mary Grace did the penguin dance. This book has scenes that can easily make readers laugh and adore the siblings. I also loved the format and structure of this book. This book was not slow-paced or fast-paced.

I did not find anything that I did not like in this book. This book has many moral lessons for readers, and I'm confident many readers will love it. It shows that having Down syndrome should not stop anyone from enjoying life, and life is a gift meant to be lived contently. It also shows the loving qualities of both siblings. Mary Grace is kind, helpful, and selfless, whereas Donny is fun-loving, adventurous, and caring.

I rate this book five out of five stars. This book has been professionally edited, and I have found no errors. I recommend this book to children over the age of ten, and I also recommend it to readers who love to read about mysteries and solving cases. This book is amazing and beautiful.
