Will You Talk to Me? A Story About the Hummingbird and His Wisdom by Margie Carstens is a children's book about a young girl who lacks confidence and how the hummingbird helped her to gain confidence in herself through the hummingbird’s wisdom. This is a very sweet story, with very lovely illustrations of the ocean, the little girl, and the hummingbird.

The little girl loves to watch the ocean from her window but is very intimidated by how vast it is with all the creatures including the giant whales. Then she discovers a tiny hummingbird outside her window and realizes that he is full of confidence and a very brave creature despite his size. How can he be so confident despite being so tiny? She wants to know how he became so confident and so brave. She asks the hummingbird many questions starting with “Will you talk to me?” and exploring several topics including how the hummingbird became so confident in himself, learned to fly so well, and how to be happy being yourself.

I recommend this book to parents searching for a way to boost their children's confidence in themselves and possibly encourage their children to explore the world around them. Children interested in the ocean, wildlife, and hummingbirds may find this book of particular interest.

I rate this book a 5 out of 5. Will You Talk to Me? seems professionally edited, I found only one minor error. The one thing I disliked about this book was that it ended so soon; I would have enjoyed hearing more of the hummingbird's wisdom. I applaud the author for touching on emotional subjects in such a delicate way and appreciate the additional scientific facts about hummingbirds that the author included. My favorite line in this book was, “If your heart is truly happy, you wouldn’t want to put others down or hurt them.”
