Review of Stevie Tenderheart Books A Second Kiss Goodnight (A Bedtime Story)
Steve William Laible's book Stevie Tenderheart Books A Second Kiss Goodnight (A Bedtime Story) is an engaging story that invites young readers to use their imagination as they follow the protagonist, Stevie Tenderheart, who is struggling to fall asleep at night. Stevie comes up with a plan, inspired by one of his dreams, to help him fall asleep faster. To discover the details of Stevie's plan and whether it is successful, readers are encouraged to obtain a copy of the book.
The book commences with the author delineating the character of Stevie, a youthful boy brimming with vitality who detested retiring to bed during the summer evenings when daylight lingered. He derived great pleasure from dreaming while asleep, often envisioning animals, vibrant colours, and animated scenes. His dreams were occasionally filled with adventure and frequently featured animals from diverse habitats. Eager to expedite his bedtime routine, Stevie devised a plan to compose a note and bury it beneath a tree, entreating the animals to bestow upon him a second goodnight kiss. His intention was for creatures of all sizes to visit his bedside and tenderly kiss him on the forehead, mirroring the affectionate gestures from his dreams. Although the note was indeed perused and comprehended by insects, critters, and animals, did they fulfill his request for a kiss? Did his strategy to hasten sleep prove successful? All is revealed within the pages of this book.
This book possesses numerous favourable qualities. For instance, the language employed is straightforward, lucid, and accessible to the target audience, which is commendable. Additionally, the book features descriptive language that enables readers to comprehend the various linguistic techniques authors use to create impact. An instance of such descriptive language is the phrase "trickly tickly," which elicited a slight amusement. Moreover, the book incorporates subtle instances of humour, such as the terms "smoocher" and "lip smack," which evoked amusement and captivated my full attention. The humour within the book stimulated my enthusiasm to complete it, and I was pleased that I did. The inclusion of numerous photographs throughout the book brought the characters to life, a feature that I appreciated. Towards the conclusion of the book, there were several pages dedicated to the author's favourite quotes. One of my preferred quotes highlighted in the book is attributed to Oscar Wilde, who stated, "The best way to make a child good is to make them happy." I admire this quote for its portrayal of how children can attain happiness. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book.
In terms of drawbacks, the only issue I encountered was the alteration in font style midway through the book. Although this did not significantly detract from my overall enjoyment of the book, it is noteworthy as it may cause some readers to feel a slight sense of disorientation. It is important to highlight that there were no discernible errors in the text, contributing to a seamless, enjoyable, and satisfying reading experience.
In conclusion, I give the book 5 out of 5 stars. I thoroughly appreciate all aspects of this book, including its flawless execution and captivating narrative that vividly portrays the imaginative capabilities of children. I believe that this book will resonate with individuals who have an affinity for children's literature, particularly with children aged between seven and nine.
