Animal Village, written and illustrated by Nelda Lateef, is an educational animal that tells a short tale about an animal kingdom in the land of Zarma, West Africa.

In the heart of the story is a time in this geographical place when the dry season refuses to give way to the wet season as it is supposed to naturally do. The whole animal starves, and the animal's head, Chief Zamboha, is clouded by hopelessness as to what to do to counter the situation. One day, Zamboha called a meeting, summoning all the animals to deliberate on a way out of their lack of water on their land. However, while seeking ideas from his fellow animals, Zambora finds it difficult to find a realistic solution. How does the animal resolve the thirst problem? What role do tortoises play in contributing to solving the consequences of drought on the land? Get a copy to witness it all and also get impacted by the costly lessons shared in the story.

The book is an interesting piece, as I enjoy both the written and visual quality of it. The visual quality of the book would make it appeal to children as well. The emphasis on the lesson that unity breaks boundaries and makes things done no matter how hard it proves stood out to me, especially as it is being reiterated by a song in the book. The story also teaches resilience and patience as necessary human qualities that make even the hardest things achievable.

I don’t have anything to dislike in the book, as I enjoyed everything that constitutes its makeup. I love the captivating diagram, the straightforward approach to narrating the story, and the smooth-to-read writing style that carries the right, thrilling tone for an animal fantasy story. Moreover, the book has been written exceptionally well, as I did not locate a typo in it. I will rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend the story to lovers of fairytales and short animal stories.
