This book is about an eleven-year-old girl named Abigail Stormberg who is sorting her ancestry information; she knows she is half-Swedish but doesn't know her mother's ancestry. She needed this information for her bicentennial assignment. When she went to see the family tree on her father's office desk, she was disappointed when she saw that her father wrote "I don't know them" in capital letters for her maternal side of the family tree. She meets with her friends Sophie and Kelly, who tell her to make up a story for the assignment, but instead, she gets inspired to uncover her mother's roots. Abigail and Sego's Magical Train Ride is an exciting and educational book because I learned much as an adult. I read about the White Buffalo Calf Woman and the Lakota people and what the white buffalo signifies to them. It was also interesting reading about time travel, and Abigail's experience was enjoyable. Children could learn about solving mysteries from this book, and it was interesting how Gabriel was dishing out instructions from the magical world. Children could learn many interesting facts from this book, such as the information about President Lincoln fighting against the Black Hawk in the Black Hawk Indian War in 1832.

I have no dislikes about this book, but it has a lot of characters and may be difficult for little children to keep up with. Because of this, I recommend this book to teenagers aged fourteen and above. Considering the positives I have listed above, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I found only two errors while reading this book, proving professional editing.
