Review of Anna Meets Chinese New Year

The world is home to a diverse population with various cultural practices. These customs and practices come together to form our identity and set us apart from others. In her story Anna Meets Chinese New Year, Sabrina Mailhot describes a Chinese family's celebration of the New Year. Traditions like this can encompass many things, including religion and the food we eat.
Anna is snuggling next to her older sister, Yuna, who had played a lot the night before. When nǎi nai entered the room the following day, they could barely open their eyes. Grandma opened the curtains, and Anna was alarmed at some strange noises. She asks her grandma if those were fireworks and replies that they were firecrackers. Grandma tells them about the xīn nián monster, and Yuna tries to scare her younger sister with the red dragon, but Anna imagines defending herself with firecrackers from the monster. Grandma tells them that she has prepared the traditional jiao zi for the occasion and they should hurry downstairs. Get a copy of this book to learn how Anna and her family spent their new year.
I found this book amazingly appealing because of the brevity and the beautiful pictures to look through. Sabrina made the book engaging with these pictures; her writing was very descriptive and enlightening. The book depicts a lot about Chinese culture, and this is very beneficial to little children. As an adult, I learned some Chinese words for family members, like nǎi nai, which means grandma, and also that dumplings are called jiao zi, and it was fun trying to pronounce these words. Lastly, I like how the importance of family is stated in this book.
I have no negative comments about this, and based on my likes, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I encountered no errors while reading this book, proving it was perfectly edited. I recommend this book to children six to ten years of age because they will comprehend it better.
