In Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures (The Grandma Gang Mysteries) by Catherine A. Pepe, the reader is left feeling ecstatic. It's a heartwarming children's story, about two adorable children who fancy their environment and love everything therein. But their lives are about to take a new turn when their parents get a message to embark on missionary work in Africa.

This book creates a very impressive storyline. At the early stage of the book, the author makes us aware of Donny having Down syndrome. However, while reading, I found out that Donny lived a very healthy and beautiful life. His parents and his clever sister Mary Grace's affection was the cause of all of them.

The fact that the character, Donny, was a reality aroused my interest in reading this book. In the author's note, he tells where he initiated the name “Donny” from. Also, the author did a great job of creating the character of Mary Grace. She was inquisitive and quite mature for her age. Most especially she was always concerned about her little brother.

The most exciting aspect of this book was their first visit to the “Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas,” where Donny went missing. Mary Grace had to go the extra mile to find her brother. I guess her attitude was what attracted the two young teens to join forces with her in looking for Donny. This is a part that will create a desire for the average young reader

I never thought going to California would make this book more delightful to read. Mary Grace was able to solve a mystery with the help of the Grandma Gang. I enjoyed every part of their stay in California and I didn’t even want them to go back to Kansas. I wish the author could create another series of the book.

I will recommend this book to every parent who has a child-like Donny. Also, kids who enjoy reading literature will find this book very enlightening. I found nothing negative about this book, and I found only an error. Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures (The Grandma Gang Mysteries) was a very lucrative children’s book. The book deserves a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because I have no negative points against it.
