Review of Unicorns Know Magic
If you have ever wanted to read a tale that shows a connection between a unicorn and a human, Unicorns Know Magic by Charles Adkin is an option. The book unfolds through the perspective of two children who discover that their new neighbors are a family of unicorns named Abby, Georgia, Bitsy, and Chase. The narrative takes readers on a delightful trip to France and London, introducing them to French words and croissants while meeting the queen and joining a parade.
The author takes readers on a magical journey, describing each unicorn and highlighting their unique talents. From Abby's ability to sing any song to Georgia's proficiency in roller skating, Bitsy's talent for standing on her head, and Chase's skills in playing the guitar, each unicorn contributes to the enchantment of the story. The narrative seamlessly transitions into a captivating trip where the children ride on the backs of the unicorns, exploring different places. They took a delightful trip to France and London, introducing them to French words and croissants while meeting the queen and joining a parade.
One standout feature of the book is the captivating illustrations by Ross Web, blending artistic and childlike depictions that bring the story to life. The vivid and lively art style encourages readers to replicate the figures, making it an engaging visual experience. The book serves as an educational tool, teaching children about different cultures, household chores, and introducing new words in a simple and rhyming manner.
While the book received a perfect rating, a noteworthy critique is the depiction of a child being called cool based on extraordinary actions at school, potentially fostering a desire for vanity. The font choice may pose a slight challenge for some readers. I did not notice any errors in this book, which shows that it was expertly edited by the author.
In conclusion, Unicorns Know Magic receives a commendable 5 out of 5 stars. Despite minor concerns, the storyline effectively imparts valuable lessons on vegetables, household chores, gratitude, and farewells. I recommend this book to young readers who harbor a fondness for unicorns and dream of magical faraway lands.
