Children's novels, in my opinion, need to be edited and examined even more carefully than other books since any errors might potentially mislead a young reader. I was captivated by the title of Steve William Laible's book, "Stevie Tenderheart Books: A Second Kiss Goodnight (A Bedtime Story)," as soon as I crossed by it. It sounds like a light and enjoyable read. But is it so? Let's take a closer look!

There are a lot of characters: Stevie Tenderheart himself, the author, and numerous animals and creatures. All these magical creatures participate in a bedtime routine while giving us two kisses of goodnight. As expected, the narrative serves not only to entertain but also to teach some valuable lessons, like the importance of good sleep, safety, etc. We will also find out about the tradition of a two-kiss goodnight.

The story itself is straightforward yet still fascinating with each new page. To my mind, it is only an advantage. However, this book wouldn't be so delightful and easy to read without a perfect editor's work; I did not find any typos or misspellings. There were no heavy terms or paraphrases. But the author also includes a few quotes from well-known figures at the start of the book. The quotes were on topic; however, I think they are too heavy for a child to understand. It would be better to replace them.

In summary, I rate this book 5 out of 5. I failed to find anything that might mislead or distress young readers or listeners. I cannot say this book is exceptional, yet it serves its purpose well enough. This book will be more suitable for children between 3 and 6 years old (it doesn't mean that a child can't read it when they become older). I recommend this book to every parent.

I agree with you that a book needs to be edited even more carefully because young readers' minds are still fragile and malleable. This book seems to perfectly serve its purpose!
I'm slightly disappointed by Claudia's comment. It's too bad that a children's book doesn't have any illustrations especially if it's aimed at kids who can't read. Illustrations are a way to share a moment with the parents while they read. Moreover, the illustration on the cover is cute and colorful, I'm sure it would appeal to many children.
