This is the story of Stevie Tenderheart. He does not like his name. It does not sound dangerous or mysterious. The first half of the book is filled with Stevie’s daily adventures and usual routines. He spent his summers working in the strawberry fields. He loved how he could buy his favorite food with his hard-earned money, although his mommy didn't approve of it. The book continues to narrate several of his adventures and his on-and-off struggle to change his name.

Stevie Tenderheart Books - Billy Jack (The Great Escape) by Steve William Laible begins when he claims to call himself Billy Jack. He hates to be put to bed during the day, but all kids were put to bed during the day. One night, he decides to sneak away. The book narrates how his ‘great escape’ unfolds. He embarks on a journey full of obstacles and challenges, determined to prove his independence and bravery. In the end, he successfully makes it home and learns the importance of being responsible. Despite the difficulties he faces, Billy Jack remains determined to prove himself and make his mark on the world.

I loved the author’s style of narration. There were many photographs, which helped me enjoy the narration as I read. There were some of Stevie’s favorite shows, black-and-white movies, and even a list of possible future Mrs. Tenderheart!

There were no negative aspects to this book. The book is professionally edited and has no spelling or grammar errors. Overall, the book is engaging and fun to read with children.

I would rate this book five out of five stars. It is recommended for kids above kindergarten age up until they are teenagers. Parents and even educational institutions could use this book as a fun tool that would serve both education and entertainment for the kids.
