Review of Stevie Tenderheart Books - Billy Jack (The Great Escape)
Stevie Tenderheart Books - Billy Jack (The Great Escape) by Steve William Laible is a children's book. Billy Jack is a smart kid who always thinks creatively. This book is about one of his many exciting adventures.
Billy Jack's mother usually tucks him in bed before sunset. He found this to be oppressive. Billy wanted to go out and play with his friends while the sun was still up. He had always dreamed of playing endlessly with his friends. One day, Billy had had enough. After his mother had sent him to his room, he started plotting his escape. He employs many ingenious ideas on his way out of his room. You should read the book to find out how his plan goes.
Throughout the book, the author says a lot about how parents are overly strict with their kids. From a child's perspective, these strict rules imposed on them prevent them from having fun. It was interesting to have this subject covered from this unique point of view. As the story goes on, the odds comically stack up against him. I found myself feeling bad for Billy Jack.
This book is short and easy to read. Anyone could read it in one sitting. The author uses a unique style of writing that requires some thought to read. Some children may need some help reading the book. However, the book includes many definitions of difficult words in the text, which makes it easier for younger readers to understand. It was a unique children's book. Even though I am a grownup, I relate to Billy and his plight against his oppressive parents. By the end of the book, it made me look back at my childhood and appreciate the good times I had with my friends.
This was the first book I read by Steve William Laible. I liked his writing style. I am looking forward to reading more of his books. There is even a quote by Johnny Depp at the end praising him. I believe Steve deserves the recognition he is receiving.
There were no editing mistakes in this book. I applaud the editor for doing a good job. The author has a fun way of writing, and I had a blast reading it. There are many images given to help the reader visualize the story. However, many pages were just walls of text. I would have liked more images to keep younger readers interested, but this didn't stop me from enjoying the story.
The writing fits the subject matter. The editing is flawless. The images enhanced the reading experience. I found nothing to dislike about this book. Considering all the above points, I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to any younger reader looking for a great adventure with a good message.
