There is beauty in every young, creative, and innovative mind, and as the saying goes, "Children are the future we see." Despite children being cunning and disorganised due to their innocent minds, some positive lessons could be gained from their mischief. Steve Williams' book Billy Jack: The Great Escape is a bedtime story based on a true story that encourages readers to think creatively when faced with life's obstacles or exploring its possibilities.

The book introduces us to the main character, Billy, who is mischievous and dislikes bedtime. We get to see how he plans to skip it. By reading this book, we explore Billy's adventures as he overcomes difficulties and shows great courage and strength. He devised different plans for his journey and what came of it. The reader also learns if Billy's plans worked and if skipping bedtime was worth it for him. Apart from Billy, the reader learns about other characters in the book and their different roles.

I found this book to be morally elevating, and I would describe Billy as courageous and determined. While reading this book, I believe children could learn from it. Billy was highly optimistic and thought creatively and innovatively for a young lad, which helped him pull through difficult stages in his adventure, something I find highly commendable. His adventure was filled with insights and questions that I found interesting and humorous. I appreciate that even Billy has a lesson to take home from this book, which adds to its value. I like that the author wrote the book authentically and took the time to explain terms, helping the reader comprehend better. Lastly, the illustrator has done a good job with the pictures in this book, as they were nice to look at.

The book's flawless editing was evident; I found no errors and had no dislikes. I recommend this book to parents with children between 3 and 8 years old, as it would be a good resource for bedtime stories. I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
