Do you want your children to feel that they are special and unique? Is it possible to counter negative thoughts by encouraging children to think positively? Do you think a child needs to know that “It’s great just to be you”? If you answered yes to these questions, you should get the book There’s Only One You by Shirley Schulze.

This storybook can be read in under two minutes. You will have time to pause with your child to discuss the significance of what was read. The book is 20 pages in length. It is divided into ten sets of 2 pages. Each set starts with "There’s only one you." This is followed by another 2 or 3 phrases elaborating on the importance that there is only one you. For example, one set of pages has these phrases: There’s only one you. You’re a special find. You were put in this world to be one of a kind.

This storybook gives children the message that it is good to be different from everyone else.

The book has colorful illustrations designed by Anna Cassata. They have a water-paint look that children will be familiar with. The illustrations depict the planet Earth, a newborn baby, a schoolyard, an amusement park, a playground, a birthday party, a children’s playroom, a crowd of children, a beach by the ocean, a ski hill, children doing individual activities, and a baby nursery. In each picture, there are children of diverse races, different heights, and abilities. In one picture, a child is talking to a friend who is sitting in a wheelchair.

A child will finish reading this story with the idea that they are unique and important. This crucial message must be given to children as often as possible, so why not read this book before they go to sleep? They will fall asleep with the knowledge that they can love who they are. They will wake up knowing that what they have to offer the world is unique and valued.

This book was concise and easy to read. I enjoyed this book. I am certain that children and their parents will enjoy it also. A six-year-old child will be able to read this book. I did not find anything to dislike about this book. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

This book sounds so good, only read a little and my baby loves it his eyes just sparkle. I love my baby and this book is amazing just the thing needed. I love how it tells you that your special, you don't need to be anyone else to be loved or liked and there's only ever one you no one else could be you or replace you. This is an amazing children's book. I would love to recommend this book to my friends and some others at church. I think this book is teaching a great lesson. Its something every kid should be taught or have read to them because the message in this book is so deep, beautiful and definitely meaningful.

We are all unique in one way or another. However, we forget that because our schools remind us that there is only one way of learning and if you cannot learn, you are a failure. This book will remind you that you are unique and it is okay to be yourself.

This sounds like such a wholesome book, and one I would have desperately needed when I was a kid. Your review explained the importance of kids learning to love and believe in themselves as early as possible so well - these are important formative years for them, years where they're only just taking their first steps into the world and learning there's so many different ways to be. Teaching them the way they are isn't wrong might just make the difference in the future. Thanks for sharing this! If I ever have kids I'll definitely consider reading this book to them.

Great review, Gerry! I love the overall message in the book. This is especially relevant because children these days are exposed to a lot of social media that focuses on fitting in and making people feel like they are not good enough. Making sure your child has good self-esteem from a very young age is the only way to protect them.
