A little girl is suffering in silence, troubled by other people's hurtful opinions about her. Now, she takes delight in watching the ocean and the creatures living in it. While engrossed in this sight one day, a bird caught her attention. It turns out he is a hummingbird. The bird's incredible qualities are astonishing, and more than ever, this girl wants to know the secrets behind his exceptional personality. Well, there is more to this contact and conversation!

I admired Carstens' storytelling skills, like her masterly use of short descriptive sentences, each of them with different strokes of pictures and memories. I couldn't wish more after being welcomed with this narrative: "She loves the ocean. It makes her happy to look out over the vast, shimmering body of water. It is enormous! She watches the sailboats. There are Jet Skis and fishing boats and yachts. Waves crash in perfect formation against the rocks" (page 3).

Will You Talk to Me?: A Story of the Hummingbird and His Wisdom, written by Margie Carstens, presents readers with the changes and possibilities that can come with the right mindset and awareness, shown in several ways using the hummingbird as a reference point. I think this is the most remarkable merit of this book, as it equips children with the awareness they need to protect themselves from any form of victimization and to identify and develop their endowments.

The book is intentionally organized, with intricate creativity embedded here and there. An instance is the alternating arrangement of text and painting on each page and then the intermittent breaks. This was a wonderful read: the story is intriguing, the lessons are empowering, the illustrations are bright, and the text was exceptionally well-edited. For these reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers aged three to nine. There is no complaint to report.
